Message Once you've calmed down then start looking at the car again. A head gasket leak is not related to a rod knock. So it's not one before the other. If you didn't overheat, you don't have oil in coolant and no water in the oil then there you probably don't have a head gasket issue.

This rod knock you are talking about, it could be from poor lubrication, not enough assembly lube, incorrect bearing size, tolerances out of spec, crank journal surfaces not polished or in bad shape, oil starvation, and on and on and on...

Do you have low oil pressure? I would assume if you had a spun bearing that you would have low oil pressure. What I would do it start it up get a mechanic stethoscope an find out what you are actually dealing with before talking about curses. It might just be a lifter or VTC noise.. It could be a rebuild. Find out where this noise is coming from and we will help you.

Good luck!
